Dash Handle

i once owned a 1963 MG that had a chrome handle on the passenger side of the dash. The car doors only had a latch release on the inside of the door (no exterior handle) and the rest of the car was also very sparse in appointments. It was mfg. with seatbelts and therefore there was a measure of safety and security... but not much! The dash handle gave the passenger something to grip around curves etc.

I have often thought that a model A could use a dash handle on the passenger side.

Anyone thought the same or created such an item?

Best regards,

yes i thought that also . they make some really nice handles @ hardware stores . please do not mount it on the gas tank ! LOL

My wife keeps reaching for the handle (that isn't there) above the door (like our Explorer) when she is getting in the A.

The cockpit of an MGA is small and cramped, and that handle was useful. It was a carry over from the T type MG. The MGB, which followed the A did not have the handle, but had a more spacious cockpit. I often wondered if the handle was to assist in entry and exit, or was there to quell fears at high speed.

I was in a VW in the 60s and my friend swerved to miss a car that came into our lane, the VW rolled on its side ,and i held onto that grab handle for dear life,(no seat belts) it saved my butt from going out the window

The MG handle was for passenger entry and exit since the driver had a steering wheel to hold on to. Bob

Don't use the Model A steering wheel to assist in entering or exiting your car or you may find some gas on your pant legs
