Dana 2 speed rear end in Cougar

Mercury had Dana build a 2 speed rear end for the Cougar,it was a takeoff on there 2 speed truck rear end. Does anyone know what year they were used and how well they worked????

I read that there were two built. I also spoke with a fellow who saw F250's with champ car quick changes before production started to decide on rear ratios. The Pilot Plant in Dearborn had/has a lot of unusual things.
 
Ole Don is correct, Hot Rod Magazine reported on that rear end BITD but as an option it was stillborn.
 
Weren't they called the Cougar"Eliminator" series with that 2 speed rear? Seems like I read about in Hot Rod as a 1970 model but its been too long to be sure and I don't want to go through my 50 year collection of magazines.
