Damaged part

Received shipment from Macs the other day. Box was not damaged, but the 2 blade fan I ordered was gouged in a couple of places. The fan was in a sealed plastic sleeve that was intact- not torn or damaged in any way. Don't see how damage to the fan could occur during shipping without putting a tear in plastic sleeve. I do believe they took great care to seal up a damaged part and ship it to me. A couple of calls to Macs have resulted in ref # and promises of follow up call. I've not heard back from them. I don't believe I'll be conducting any further business with Macs.

I had a problem and they rectified it immediately. I was very impressed with their level of service. It may well be that it was packaged up at the manufacturer and not at Macs. I say give them a chance to correct the problem. We all make mistakes.

I have ordered from macs (now ecklers) for model a parts and muscle car parts. Never really had many problems other than backorder stuff. Placed one order with snyders and will stick with them from now on. I have placed 3 orders now with them. Perfectly packaged, good quality parts, and extremely fast shipping every time. Mostly happy with the speed of shipping. Nothing negative about Macs though.

Would it be easier, IF the gouges are MINOR, just sand them smooth & paint it?
FEW things are perfect! Buster T. thinks I'm PERFECT, BUT you guys know better! LOL---Bill W.

I had a water pump I ordered from Mac's that I had not installed. When I got ready to install it, I found the impeller was cracked. I called them and even though it was well over a year old, they replaced it with no problem. That kind of customer support deserves some customer loyalty in my book.

SD, That's a good example of GOOD customer relations! MANY times an unusual circumstance can be handled easily, IF our ATTITUDE is proper. I had a 4 year old floor jack from Harbor Freight, not used much, but would creep down 2" overnight, with no weight on it. Took it back, no invoice even,---"Shucks, looks BRAND NEW"!---"I'll get you another"-----Long story short, I went back in the store & bought $180.00 worth of stuff!----Bill W.

They seem to run hot and cold on customer service. A search here will reveal more of the great and down right poor service stories.

One gouge on hub, one gouge on leading edge (sharp side) of blade. Could easily make cosmetic touch up on both spots - but - do I remove " equal" amount of metal from fan blade 180 from damage? Will I have "balance" issue? (I'm already unbalanced). Will hub (pulley) damage cause pre- mature belt wear, alignment issues? Purchased "new" parts to avoid such issues. Still- no call from Macs! Perhaps they are back-logged trying to correct other/similar ...issues?

probably speaking up here when I should be quiet... but this sounds extremely minor.
They are on their shelf already sealed... so I would say they probably didn't intentionally send you one with a gouge or nick in it. If it's a minor thing, touch it up and move on. If it's bugging you to death call them and you and them come to terms on it. In my opinion this forum shouldn't be to air vendor issues unless there is fraud.
We are very lucky to have the suppliers we have to our hobby. They all work very hard to please everyone, and that is not an easy job!!

Take into account the gazillion orders they all fill every day. Everything wont' be perfect every day.. We're not either. Don't sweat the small stuff!

Have already ordered replacement. It's just that I'm miffed about poor (non- existent) customer from major supply house! Shouldn't have to call twice, much less three times to even get that "follow up" call!

Sorry 'bout all the *****'n! Just figured if I was having "issues" I might spare others by getting these things out in the open. If I'm out of line or this is an inappropriate venue for this type of discussion, I apologize. Just ticked off that I'm waiting on parts when I could have used that 3 day weekend to be up and driving. Not retired- still working full time- weekends are when I'm going to work on my car.

It's alright. Your new here so you have not read the comments in the past about Macs and their hit and miss service. Now you know first hand and others have read it that did not know.

In my opinion, it's not inappropriate at all. A big part of working on early cars is parts acquisition and whether or not it's a pleasurable experience. There's nothing better than getting a part from a knowledgeable supplier who cares as much as you do about early cars.
My issue with this is not that the part was marred but that there had to be a "follow up" call at all. On the first call, the response should have been, "We will send another fan out to you today with prepaid shipping for the return of the damaged part." There's plenty of good suppliers out there that would have handled it exactly that way.

I've ordered from Mac's for years and had very good service. However, I myself have dropped the ball lots of times in servicing my own customers. It just happens sometimes.

I have also had good service from Macs but don't like there change over to new part numbers. I hope they continue to use the old part numbers. In your situation set the course of action. Tell them the part is damaged and you would like to return it for credit towards a new one, get a Return Goods number if required and send it to them. Then things will happen. Ed

I have ordered from MAC's several times (and several other vendors) and the only problem I had was a item worth less than a dollar seemed to be missing from a packed item. I notified MAC's so they could check their inventory. They offered to send me the piece on charge Priority Mail. That's good Customer Service.

I refused the offer and said I would order it separately on my next order. I'm glad I did refuse because I later found it on my work bench where it had fallen when I opened the package.

IMO vendors should be given a chance to correct their mistakes before their mistakes are made public.
