Cylinder Block Cleaning

I'm in the engine teardown mode as we speak.

Please, what are the options for a good block cleaning process that WILL NOT melt or damage the babbit bearings?

Thanks, Racemo

Any automotive machine shop or transmission shop will have something commonly known as a jet clean, basically a big dishwasher for car parts, using a detergent safe for aluminum parts. They can safely clean your T block without harming babbit. I use one to clean babbited blocks for assembly.

You can take you engine to any machine shop to have it cleaned.
However The washing machine must be for Aluminum safe cleaning not for cast iron as the Sodium Hydroxide cleaning solution will attack the original babbit.

Correct. I had a local shop that did mine and the babbit came out with just a slight matte finish. No harm at all. This same engine shop also degreased the range hoods from a local hotel. Pure metal left with not the slightest trace of grease anywhere in both cases.

I had mine sonic cleaned. It worked great.
In the past I have taken them to a transmission shop that has a jet cleaning machine. However, it didn't clean them as well as sonic does. The old oil didn't want to come off using the jet clean system.
