hello about what synders calls a 'curved interior panel ' a-161ab '. not sure what edge goes up; it has a rounded edge and bended edge. which edge is attached to the rumble seat riser? thakns

I would be curious on what body you are concerned about. Coupes & roadsters either had the flat trunk panel than angled down from the top of the panel below the deck lid or it had the curved inner panel for rumble seat. The rumble seat riser is a part of the floor on both types so it can clear the rear cross member. The front of the curved panel should have holes in it that attach to the back of the riser and there should be stops there for the rumble lid. The rear of the curved panel attaches to the panel below the deck lid. The sides attach with the triangle braces on each inside of the rear quarters. It acts as a rain scupper drain for water that comes in through the deck lid gaps and is routed to the back in the troughs of the rain gutters on the front and sides of the deck opening.

A lot of these old cars have jury rigged panels in them due to rear collision damage in their past so I don't know what sort of set up you have. Roadster bodies are similar but not exactly the same as coupe bodies since the body is shorter in height and the deck lid fits differently. The panel below the deck lid had a center brace to help hold the spare tire fitting on the back. There was also a curved steel center fitting that attached on the bottom of that curved panel so it could tie in to that center brace on the back. It isn't reproduced so a person has to look for that stuff or fabricate it. The panel below the deck lid center braces are made for the 30/31 but not for the 28/29 so more stuff that has to be modified or fabricated depending on what you have.

Thanks for the reply, i learned a lot. Trial and error taught me: stamped bended side down. 31 roadster in parts and my inexperience. the a161 had a straihght top but i noticed that the lid was slightly bowed out , so interference upon opening . when i madt the a161 curved out the a161 there was clearance on opening. I had to slot the drill holes. Idont know the manufacturer of the a161. You taught me alot.

There are two curved panels available. You should have the correct one for your 31 roadster in the P/N A-161-AB since it specifies the all the roadsters. I don't know how much different it is from the A-361-A that I have in my 1929 Sport Coupe but I suspect it is related to the way the top rear is formed to join the panel below the deck lid. This one is for the 1928/29 Coupes and all the Cabriolets of 29 through 31. I think it's a little longer due to the taller panel below the deck lid on them. The 30/31 panel below the deck lid is different between the 28/29 and the 30/31 Coupe bodies.

The riser trunk/rumble floor panels are all over the place in quality and fit so it pays to get a good one of those too. A lot of this replacement stuff just isn't as good a quality as the original parts. Unfortunately, it's all we have to choose from in complete reproduction panel assemblies. A person needs an original part to reproduce one as Ford made them.
