cups

getting ready to assemble my 406 heads and in looking thru my head parts i found some cups. cant find any info in my shop book, so i thought i would ask the experts out there. using a comp cam with corresponding springs, so do i need to use these cups or discard. thanks

Those were used in Hi Performance solid lifter cam engines, 427 specificly, others I feel as well. Shims to establish correct spring heigth/tension were inserted under the cups. They were required when putting the 427 tripple springs on Boss 302 heads...so if your cam/lifters/springs are for a 406 Hi-Po then yes. Having said that be sure to check for spring bind at max lift.

There were also some small cups used on some Ford engines that were placed on top of the valve stem. May not apply in your case.
