Cruising rpms

I am sure this question has been asked before. But here it goes again. What woud be a reasonable rpm rate to cruise a 1940 v8 60 hp engine at? The engine it a new rebuild with about 400 break in miles on it. Runs great!
I am hopeing someone that has one can answer this from experience for me. It is in a 31 model a coupe. Thanks

A 60 hp V-8 has 134 cubic inches. A model "A" engine has about 200 cubic inches. Somebody went backwards. The v8-60 is a cute little engine. I have never been around one so I can not answer your question. I would just go by feel.

Years ago I bought a pile of NOS 60 engine parts from an old hydroplane racer, he said that at 7000 rpm the engine would last more than a season, at 7500 rpm it would last less than a season ---this was using stock parts.

I never measured the rpm of the 39 sedan, but after the conversation I didn't worry about running the car at 70 up the parkway,or winding out 2nd in an attempt to merge with traffic with the engine built out of the NOS parts, the boxed sets of rods were all within 1 gram, same for the pistons , the engine ran very smooth.

The 60 is not an engine that has low end pulling power, it is an engine that needs rpm to do anything.

The v8/ 60 block was the basis for the Cosworth ( dbbl o/h cams) at one time I remember 9000 as an average. F1 racing saw many years of this little engine that could!! So the bottom end is strong, use it and enjoy . ernie n tx

Not to hijack the thread but, by coincidence my buddy and I recently bought a group of early v8 parts, including a v8-60. We are going to clean it up and check visually for any cracks, and then take it to vend at at the eastern meet at Saratoga. It is basically a short block with flywheel, oil pan, ex manifolds, and a few other misc parts.

If anyone is interested beforehand, send me a PM for details. The price will be reasonable.
