I Have a 1950 f1 8ba. Is there anything other then using a rope for a sealer for the crankshaft ? Anyone tried anything else w/success?

For the front seal, see Post #7 in this thread : http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=198222

For the rear, I think that's it. I just did my rear main seal, and it was pretty easy with the seals in the pan and in the top seal carrier. You don't have to remove the main cap or anything. I think if you are careful and follow the instructions, the rope seal should be fine for the rear.

Hi "Marko", I'm not sure if there's an alternate seal type for the rear, but we've never had an issue there, to be 100% truthful, we've never had a single issue with the front ropes either with respect to leaks.

I'll put a shot here of how the seal sits in the cover (I believe this may be the gap mentioned in the referenced post above by "tubman"??) It's a really nice fit, I have nothing holding it in place in the photo below, just the very slight press-fit, that's how it is!

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. Having said that it sure is a lot easier using the front neoprene's over the ropes, lay them in place, make sure you use the correct sleeves (mentioned above here), and your good to go.
