Cranking offset wrench stuck

I left the off set cranking wrench on the cam shaft and hit the starter. (Not too bright). The wrench turned with the motor and jammed hard against the frame. How best to get it out? The wrench has twisted slightly when it hit the frame.

I have tried penetrating oil, a large hammer and a have pulled the radiator a little forward and used a small crow bar.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hmmm, usually when someone does that the ratchet nut unscrews from the crankshaft. Can you put the car in gear and try rocking it.

Try putting the car in neutral, removing the spark plugs, and using the wrench to rotate the engine backwards (counterclockwise when viewed from the front) a bit. That should unjam the wrench from the frame and get you some room to rock it back and forth to get it out.

And I presume you meant that you left the wrench on the crankshaft, not the camshaft.

Let's hope your starter hasn't become jammed, although the rocking of the engine is the cure for that as well.

I agree with those suggesting rocking the car backwards to try to get the spanner out. I'd use top gear.
I also wondered about the starter. Let's hope you didn't bend the shaft. It's not the end of the world if you have - I've straightened a few but it's better to not have to.
Betcha don't do that again!

I just recently used the offset wrench for loosening the ratchet crank nut, placed the end on the fender shelf, touched the starter, and the nut was loosened ! Boy the starter has a lot of power for a 6 volt battery !

I’ve tried using high gear to brake loose a stuck starter, but unsuccessfully, guess I’am not strong enough, using low gear or reverse gives me more of a mechanical advantage, I do use high gear and chalking the wheels to lock the engine ! You may have to remove the starter if the Bendix is stuck.

Big Hammer, High gear will give you more mechanical advantage when trying to unstick a starter. If low or reverse worked better for you then there is some momentum at play. Just like swinging a hammer faster to hit a nail harder.

Like you said, when locking up the engine use high gear and **** the wheels.

I also think it is a good idea to remove the starter, as I said in Post #6.

When you get the wrench off the engine and straighten it out, incorporate the attached suggestion.
