Loctite is no good there.
Make some oversize on one end ones.
How important , in you experience, is it to install the two dowels in the crank end ? My C crank has had work and for some reason the two dowels seem to have a loose fit. Should I Loctite them or just leave them out?
I had the dowels work loose in my Winfield flathead engine. I tapped them out to 1/2 20 and found some 1/2 20 ARP flywheel bolts that I'm using I use 7/16"ARP 12 point flywheel bolts with locktite.
Hey Bill,
Also, very good ideas, thanks for sharing your experience. Trouble is, my crank is already in shortblock form ? And, do not want to disassemble ..again ! Won't be able to push the 1/2 20 tap thru, as the rear seal prevents that ?
Use a bottoming tap.
Hey Pete,
I happen to have a 1/2 20 tap. You saying that it doesn't necessarily have to tap thru ? I notice on bottom tap, that the first 1/8" or so does not make a complete thread.
My bottom taps will cut to the bottom of a drilled hole.
Just grind off the lead in and it should go all the way down.
Hey Pete,
Thanks the the help/advice. I'll cut it down and give it a try!
I did tap mine with crank in the block. Tapped with plug tap until tap close to seal then used bottoming tap to finish. I buy hand taps in sets, start, plug, and bottoming.
