Hello I`m new to the site and I was cleaning up my engine and i saw the cracks around my valve guides, Looking for advise do I need a new block or can it be repaired or just run it. I read that is from hammering out old valve guides. It was my grandfathers truck and he never said anything about it. The truck did run like this.

here are the pictures

Those broken off pieces from the guide bosses are fairly common in engines the have been rebuilt in the past. A heavy handed rebuilder pounding in new guides caused this. The chipped out areas should not cause a problem unless you also have linear cracks extending away from the guides and into the water jacket.

It looks like a couple pieces are still in the valve chamber. Too bad some guys are hammer mechanics.

Tom, are you talking about me? :D I do use and recommend only gentle blows of a hammer.;) seriously those chip will not cause you any grief as others have said.

Not too sure this is because of heavy hammer work. If you notice, the damage is only on the 2 center exhaust ports. Imagine 80 years of hot exhaust , some of it excessively hot, bearing down past the metal around the guides. Other than deciding what caused the damage, it is fairly common.

ok i appricate the help working or getting the head off still to check for Crack, I have had a problem getting that off its extremely stuck. Probably have to invest in a head puller

Welcome to the club. You may try the rope trick, by putting some rope in a couple of cylinders and turning the engine over by hand. It may pop up and there you go, it is off.

A friend of mine tweaked a rod doing that....
I either loosen the nuts and start it or use the proper tool

Get a proper head puller, as you already seem to know that that head is 'extremely stuck'
Putting ANYTHING into the cylinder area, to try pushing a head up, most likely will cause you heart ache !!

To remove a Model A head I place a hydraulic jack between the generator mount and the bottom of the water pump and jack up the front of the head. That will break the seal. Then, using 2 large screw drivers, you can pry the back of the head and the middle up. Works every time for me.

I turn the engine with the starter with the ignition off. When really stubborn, turn the key on. Oh yeh, loosen the head nuts two or 3 turns.
