There is no such thing as 3 bolt crab dist. 3 bolt dizzys are from 32-36. 4 bolt ones are from 37-41. 42-48 are 2 bolt. ken ct.:) I have 3bolt ones but are all rebuilts ,i dont sell cores. ken ct.
 
thanks for your response. I'm working with a 41 which has a 3-bolt timing cover--guess I'll have to change that to a 2 bolt cover.
 
41 should be a 4 bolt dizzy,3 bolt is 32-36,they have diff advance curves. ken ct. 2 bolt timing covers are for 42 up with crab type dizzy.
 
Since we're on the subject.My '47 has the 2 bolt obviously.I have what I think is the correct crab cap ( MSD 8541) which replaces the now obsolete 8537.Do I need a different rotor from stock and/or any other pieces to make this cap work? I prefer the simpler/cleaner look over the stock pieces.Thanks in advance!
 
46-48 use a 2 cap arrangement,outer cap looks like it has a pr of rabbit ears which have 4 wires comming out of each.If your cap has 8 fingers comming out of the sides and a nineth one on the top that is a crab type for 42. It can be used on a 46-48 by changing the rotor and adding a set of clips to hold the single cap on. I have the parts you would need. What is a MSD 8541 ,if thats a Mallory cap not stock i have NO idea what changes you would need to make to use it. 1-203-260-5945 cell if you want to call. ken ct.
 
The original distributor cap is 2 pieces.2 clips hold the first piece to the 2nd and the 2nd is retained by a bailing wire.Upon disassembly to inspect it I noticed at least 3 wires loose from the retaining hole.Not too fancy or reliable IMO.Totally disassembled it then grabbed the crab cap I mentioned.MSD is the ignition company that makes the crab cap.
 
Yes you can use a 42 crab cap on it ,you need diff clips to hold it on and the rotor from 42 also. Much simpiler arrangement and a diff gasket under the cap. I have everything you need. ken ct. Dont know anything about your MSD cap. Mine are USA made Borg-Warner.
 
Hello again Ken,sorry for the delay.I've managed to locate the 42-44 crab cap and rotor.Of course there are no gasket or clips with the Echlin pieces ( FA64 & FA65).Can you supply the gasket and/or clips?If so, can you send a PM with the total and a shipping address for payment? I appreciate your time and effort!
