cowl vent gasket removal

Hi Guys,
I'm new at this - have 1939 fordor deluxe with a leaky gasket. The gasket is original and it's sticky. Any advise on removal without harming my original paint on the rest of the hood?

I can't recall what it's called but body shops use a solution that removes "gooie, sticking adhesive" but won't harm paint. I bet a google search will find it.
 
3M makes an adhesive remover that does not harm paint. Comes in a small can with a screw spout. I bought 3 cans about ten years ago and it was about $9.00 a can.
