hi i would like to ask a question about repro cowl replacement panels for a 1929 tudor model a are there only 1 manufacturer and hows the fit from Howell Metal are they ok or not also do they just bolt in or do you have to remove the gas tank ?

Bob, many people don't realize this but there is a lot of hand-work involved by the Brookville employees when they assemble a body. They have fixtures & jigs that they are able to clamp pieces together during the assembly process. Folks also need to understand that working sheetmetal is an art, ...and to do it well requires experience and craftsmanship. This is not to say a rookie or novice cannot do it however it is to say that it does not come as an easy task for most people. Therefore, expecting it to just bolt on is probably a tall expectation.

I wouldn't buy the cowl panels from Howell's. Their sheetmetal is not the best. If I were you, I would patch the cowls with 20 ga metal unless your cowl panels is really bad. I have patched 3 sets of cowls and you can't tell they were ever rusted out. It is not that difficult, but you do need a welder - MIG or TIG with gas and some hand tools like a grinder and hammer and dollies.

I like Howells panels and find they fit pretty well, but still a good bit of work, as in anything.
