Cowl light lens

I have noticed some Model As with a orange or dark yellow lens on the cowl lights. I have checked with all the Model A vendors all they have is a yellow lens, not the darker color I want. Does anyone have any idea where to get these lenses??? Thanks Steve

How close did you look ? Perhaps, they had an orange turn signal bulb, which made the whole light look dark.

MIKE,

I've seen the orange cowl lamp lenses that whzzstank is talking about. If you remember Woody Clement's (Kanawha Valley region AACA) '31 Victoria, it had them on it in the early 1970's. so obviously they were available quite some time ago. Haven't seen a set lately.

HOT ROD GRILLE ............................
Sure, I knew Woody Clements ! I remember his Victoria, but can't remember the cowl light lens. He also had a '29 phaeton.
What was your name, back in the '70s ? I must know you. I don't think that you went by "Hot Rod Grille", back then.
Thanks,
MIKE :)

Mike Burch,

You might remember that we spoke at the Shoney's Old Time Racer's Reunion on Patrick Street in Charleston a few years ago. You told me that you were leaving for FL the next day. I also mentored your son during one of his summer jobs at Union Carbide's Tech Center. That was 10-11 years ago and I had him ask if you had an extra '34 grille (I had recently purchased my coupe and was looking for a better grille). The pic below is of that '34 after a redo. I also still have my black '30 deluxe coupe (Henry's Lady) that you might remember from the shows back then.

FWIW, I always thought the amber cowl lenses in Woody's car looked "unusual", which is probably why I remember them so vividly. He also had a Morris Minor that he used for his "daily driver". I enjoyed attending the AACA Judging Seminars with Woody and I have often wondered what happened to his cars.

You may remember me as Jim Winter.

Sure, I remember ole "Stuck In The 50s" Jim Winter ! How in the world are you, nowdays ?
That's a nice looking coupe you have there !
I still have my '29 Roadster, '34 Phaeton (avitar) and my '35 Cabriolet. I've owned them all since the 60s.
My son, Mike, ownes 10 acres, there close to the newer four lane. He might want to sell it someday.
Well, good to hear from a fellow, Fordbarner, who is a "blast from the past".
We'll keep in touch.
Thanks,
MIKE :)

Mike,

I guess that I'm still "stuck". Here are a few pics of my garage, The Hot Rod Grille (now you know where my screen name came from). Let me know the next time you get to WV and we will get together for a root beer float at the soda fountain in the garage!

Jim

JIM (Hot Rod Grille) .....................
That is "over the top" ! I remember when you were written up in the Charleston newspaper. I might still have my copy. I know that I saved it. That is fantastic !
Yes, I will make it a point to visit, the next time I come back to W.Va. I'll bring my son, Mike too.
MIKE :)

JIM ................
I forgot to mention, so I will do it now, before I forget. I have several of those Skyline Drive Race Track posters. I got mine at the Capitol Flea Market. The gal had about six, so I bought them all for some small price.
MIKE :)

I have seen cowel light lendses/reflectors like that on some cars. I thought they were turn signal lights. I now have something to really look forward to when I build me garage. Namely outfitting it all sorts of new-old stuff;)

since we got off a lil , does anyone know where i can get a pair of "heavy fluted" cowl lenses ? kinda like the '28 headlite lenses ...... thank you

Feel free to contribute anything intelligent to the "Cowl Light Lens" thread.
MIKE :)

There is also a company making led cowl lights that appear white until activated and then show amber. We haven't installed them on anything yet but sounded like a neat idea. We will put out an article as soon as they are tested.
