Cowl & Engine ID

I bought a '28 Sport Coupe that is a bit to far gone for restoration but will make a nice fenderless hot rod. It came with a spare frame with a drivetrain and cowl.

At some time in its life, someone converted it to a "farm truck" and it was worked hard. The right frame rail is broken in two places (one repaired years ago) but everything else is pretty much there and intact.

How do I identify what cowl I have? It has a straight windshield like the 28 sport coupe or a pickup, but I'm not sure what it is.

The engine is stamped w/ A143xxx so that makes it a '28 engine. What are the odds that the frame has any numbers left in the rust?

Since the drivetrain is intact, I'm tempted to rebuild it as it would have been used as a truck in it's prior life. Anyone have any pictures of A's chopped up into trucks after their use as a car was done?

I'll be putting these parts in storage until I can really dig into it, but I think it could be a neat restoration as a "homemade" truck.

Agreed - The cowl is definitely 30-1. I just don't know if it was fitted to an earlier frame or if the earlier engine was used because it was it ran.

The other option is that these parts were thrown together years ago, before it was parked. The '28 and the extra frame have been sitting in the GA woods for 30 years.

Yes, here's one my friend dragged out of the woods. It was a 28 Sedan, then cut into a crude pickup and beat to pieces, then left to rust for many years. Still had many parts worth saving though.

My '28 is in a bit better shape than that, but not much.

Maybe I should sell the cowl and build a speedster on it. Between the two frames I may have enough parts to put together a running frame.
