Hey every one. Long story short this coupe had some work 30+ years ago and it was less then stellar. I just blew it all apart and now have to make a decision as to how to proceed. Someone replaced the rear subrails and they are a ****** match.... So the question is Are new half replacement subrails any better, or am I better off starting with new ones???

I think the real answer to your question is what are your capabilities? The reproduction rails are still not an exacting match in specs to the originals however this may not matter to you. In all likelihood, what you have from the 60s & 70s originated in Texas, ...and if this is the case, you are correct they are a poor fit. Units available today are somewhat better than the Texas version IMO.

The new ones aren't as bad as the ones you have. But like Brent said they're not a perfect fit. We put some in a coupe that we did the body work on a couple months ago. It wasnt a show car so they worked just fine for what we needed.

Looking at the pics makes me wonder if the repro rails were for a Roadster. However I'm not sure how different the late '31 side rails are in that area and if they are then the new ones will still be problematic. Maybe someone can show pics of that area from the more common '30-31 type which I'm betting is all they reproduce.

Hi Brent, I'm more then capable either way, it's not doing the work that bothers me but more of the original appearance. What I'd hate is if you open the door and could tell right away that the subrails are not orig if I replaced them especially for 300 bucks. I could easily just pinch the rear rails already on there and call it a day, but if the newer rear ones fit better I might go that route, as it is I have to replace the end rail as they used 2 inch box tubing and they welded everything instead of riveting it.
