Cotter Pin Guide

I remember some time ago there was a sheet or part of one of the supplier's catalogs that covered the location and size of all of the required cotter pins. There was a sheet that you could post on one of those plastic multi compartment 1 inch tall boxes with all of your cotters. Years ago I put mine in a safe place and now I cannot find it. Does anyone remember what I am talking about and where I can find a sheet with all the cotter pin information?

Not to hi-jack Vic's thread too much, and the one we use is very similar except mine dees not use McMaster's part numbers. I just used Excel to list them by sizes and application. That list is designed to be printed and then glued to the inside of the lid of a plastic compartment box (mine is a yellow Stanley with moveable dividers) so you can buy in bulk.

Speaking about buying in bulk, Ford did not use the type of cotters that are listed on that sheet. Ford used the Hammer-lock style of Cotters. Those are extremely difficult to find. Does anyone have a good source for those??

The problem with Huyett is that it looks like you have to purchase a lot of cotter pins. Kind of like the specialty nut and bolt companies, you need 3 or 4 but have to buy 200.

Brent said "speaking of buying in bulk," so I assumed he'd be OK buying a couple hundred.
 
Not aware of ford using hammer lock cutters. What is your source?

I think I see how the hammer cotter keys work. The end of one side is bent over and hammering the other side pushes the bent end out to secure the key. The head of the key is formed so that hammering on it pushes the straight side into the bent side. Right?

Viewing pictures in the A-2351* - A-2357* prints at the archives which very closely resemble what is called the Hammer-lock pin of today.

My A-23550 Print (-which is a different Print of what your posted) show a different picture. Maybe because my revision is later than yours which is likely a carryover from the T?? I cannot see a part number on your print. Am I missing it??

A "hammer-set" or Hammerlock cotter pin (often called a hammer cotter key) is designed for fast, tool-assisted locking.

Instead of manually bending the prongs with pliers, you insert the pin through a hole in a shaft or castle nut and strike the head with a hammer. The impact forces the offset tines to flare or wedge apart automatically, locking the assembly against vibration.

How It Works Insertion: Slide the straight pin through the pre-drilled cross-hole of a bolt, shaft, or pin.

The Hammer Strike: Hit the looped or flat head firmly with a hammer. Automatic Locking: The internal design—usually featuring one longer curved tine and one shorter straight tine—forces the prongs to slide past each other and flare outward upon impact, securing the fastener without extra hand-bending

What is a Hammer-lock style of cotter pin? I never even heard this term, let alone seen one. Photo?
