Correct Motor Mounts?

Hi guys,

Strangely, this is my first post after a number of years of gleaning lots of information. So a much belated thanks goes out to you!

Now to the issue. I have a 47 sedan I'm restoring and semi-customizing. I'm about to drop in a motor so I can have the vin verified by the CHP. I have to buy motor mounts to do this, and found Steele Rubber Products. I mistakenly bought only one mount because I didn't read the description. This may have been a good thing, because when I received the mount, I noticed it didn't quite match an old one laying in the floorboards of the car. I found that the mount from Steele is US made and I'm very happy about that, but I'm not sure that their mount is correct. Or maybe their mount is correct for a different year and it's a universal fit--this would be fine. Are they correct? Who makes correct mounts, if Steele doesn't?

I'm not shooting for a concourse-correct restoration. I'm just looking to recreate what the car would look like in the late fifties and early sixties when a 17 year old would have been driving it around in the California central valley. This would mean the motor mounts would have been stock or stock to another flathead that would have been used then. I'm also seriously avoiding the use of any foreign made parts where at all possible.

Looking forward to your comments.

Ravedodger, first, welcome to the forum.

Pictures of the old and new would help to identify them.

The early ford 32-36 had a smaller hole in the front cross member for the motor mound. The hole size was increased in 37 (I believe) so the early style motor mount lower rubber bushing is a bit too small for the later hole. The center bolt may also be slightly different. Check out Bob Drakes on line catalog, I believe his mounts are good.
