Correct Fuel Pump Rebuild Kit

Can someone tell what the correct rebuild kit is for this pump I’m not sure what year it is. It goes on my 34 but I know it’s not the original 34 pump style. If anyone has seen my other forum, I finally got my new flex line for the input side of the pump but it goes is any way but straight and correctly and I’m sure that will cause air leak issues. So I’m going to try and rebuild this pump that was previously on the Car. When I tested the input line on this one it went right in straight and neat. The threads on the pump now are just gone.

Then and Now Automotive has great kits; don’t feel compelled to send it off for $$$ rebuild. Easy enough to do yourself.

I don't know how interchangeable flathead fuel pumps are, but I know the earlier ones didn't have a sediment bowl while the later ones did (including 8BA's). I also know that sometimes around '50-'51, Ford changed the threaded orifices in the fuel pumps from the "Ford Nut" stuff to regular pipe threads. Perhaps that is what is going on here.

IME, fuel pump rebuild kits are all over the place as far as compatibility goes. descriptions may or may not be accurate.

i do know that the fuel pump kit i bought for my 1941 (had a metal bowl, not glass) did not fit. neither the diaphragm (holes for screws were clocked incorrectly) nor the cork gasket (wrong diameter) for the lid. it was a fiasco. i punted and eventually bought a new fuel pump (...or two, both with glass bowls) before i found something workable. they were dirt cheap.

There are two basic styles of the pump shown. The earlier style with input and output ports are straight threads and have a tapered seat at the bottom. The slighter younger pump has tapered pipe threads and no seat at the bottom. If your using it on your 34 you want the tapered seats in the pump for the fuel line fitting and the proper input flex line with it's special fitting. I suggest getting one of Robert Shewman flex lines without any check valves in the line.
I believe you want the 47-8 style of rebuilding kit if you have seats in the pump housing there is a diagram in the 1950 Ford Chassis parts book (Green cover)

Thirdgenauto.com sold me a good kit for an early pump. daytonaparts.com and Vanpelt sales.com could supply one as well.

I have two pumps of that style. One Canadian and one USA built. One has the six screws centered on the centerline of the pump the other they are offset from center. I also have diaphragms with centered and offset holes. Never found an explanation or reason for this. To have a leak free pump work the mating surfaces with 220 grit sandpaper on a flat surface till you don't see any light when you hold them together. The fit tends to be pretty sloppy for modern thinner diaphragms.
