Copper head gasket with white asbestos...

Hmmm...seems like the WORD asbestos makes folks grab the children & run!
I'd be surprised if any are being manufactured.

I assembled my engine with a new "asbestos alternative" head gasket but you could SO tell it wasn't real asbestos..........more like cookie dough or drywall.

It was replaced when I found a NORS McCord B gasket in copper/asbestos. The source was a swap meet used vendor who was parting out an old collection.

I think this is one of those things Steve where one person may be inclined to "buy em all" for spares.
I certainly would.........just to save em from the hoarders!:D

A few want ads might bring something to the table.

Actually, I spoke with Allen at Hershey regarding this and that head gasket has been discontinued and is (will?) no longer being manufactured. Mark Auto also ceased production on their "greyish" cored gasket.

What some of us are doing is carefully pealing back the copper clad around the edges and using thinned white enamel to paint into the edges so it will soak into the core. This seems to work well as it also tends to do a better job of keeping the coolant from "wicking" over the edges.

I use Form-a-Gasket liquid sealer on all of the water passage holes in the gasket and have no leaks or seepage after seven years.
