Copper crush washers

Does anyone make the original style copper crush washers for '39 to '48 front brake hoses? I mean the ones with the ribs in them.

I'm using DOT 5 in my '32 and the fluid keeps seeping out even though I've tried different wheel cylinders, hoses and washers and tightened them as much as possible.

It's the only thing I haven't changed other than the brake fluid and I don't want to switch to DOT 3.

I just Googled (brake hose copper washer) You will find them with that search.A bunch came up.Remember Google is your friend.BTW I used to use Dot 5 and was always a pain.I now used DOT 4.

I had trouble getting a seal on the master cyl on my '40 Ford pickup. None of the new washers would seal, so I went to Carlyle about 3 years ago, I bought an old master cylinder, decrepit looking, and used that washer and no leaks with Dot 5. I only use Dot 5 on new systems, even flushed the system and used it in my "52 F7.

When I have to deal with repeat leakage from fittings sealed by copper washers I start by putting the fittings together without the washers to check the fit, and by looking at the non sealing old washers for evidence of the sealing surfaces not being in alignment ---theold copper washer crushed more on one side than the other ---overtightening bending the threads, the spot facing not being at right angles to the threads ((becoming more common with cheap imported componets) ---signs of a spiral groove on the spot face surface from bad cutting tool alignment ---a banjo bolt over tightened and distorted (an easy clue is the holes through the sides are oval not round) ---

With the fittings are assembled finger tight without washers try a feeler gauge (.002)around the edges to see if the surfaces are parallel.

I keep a stash of thicker than normal washers, and some small pieces of copper sheet that I have made special washers to cure "problems"

You should be able to go to local parts store and match something up.there were various size washers used on most calipers. They sell kits for hardware for hoses, you may not need the bolt in the kit.
