Cooling fan

New to flatheads, need some help, have a Super dual intake manifold, (1949 engine) without generator mount, so, I can mount the generator/alternator on the driver side head, But, how do I mount the fan??? The fan and pulley assembly mounts to the generator mount. What was done in the good old days?? I can use an electric fan,but I still need a proper belt drive layout. Just need a little advise--pictures--etc. Thanks WES

Are you saying that the manifold doesn't have this mount?

manifold does not have the mount. Is similar to system from Speedway Motors

It sounds like you're using a '32-'48 super dual, and some brands (Edelbrock for one) came both with the generator mount (for a fan or belt idler) and without. I'm pretty sure all '49-'53 supers had the front mount.
I would just sell/swap the intake for one that has the front pad mount. :)

JFYI, since your new to flatheads, the '32-'48 intakes had level carb bases, while the '49-'53s had angled bases along with front oil fill and road draft provisions. All flathead intakes will interchange, but internal ventilation and open v.s. closed drive lines required several design changes that can be of issue. What car is the '49 engine in?

This is what I did (this is on a 1948, 59a engine), used the off-set bracket for the generator and fab'd a bracket to attach a late model fan to the original generator mount on the manifold. The fan mount looks out of line in these photos because it was just a mock-up with a thin piece of metal for the bracket. I am making a much heavier bracket to use.
