Have a 23 short restoration by my father in 1960 engine ran ok with respect to engine age ran and used every year by father and me . Within last month discovered water in oil and o'course in ****** Need some advice as to locate leak we did anticipate a out of frame engine rebuild
Could anyone provide a little help in finding a good house for rebuild and rough idea of cost

It might be as simple as a leaking head gasket. It is a simple job to replace a head gasket on a Model T and they are readily available from the parts suppliers. Hopefully the problem is not a cracked block.

Are there bubbles in the rad when running? The first place to suspect is the head gasket - water can leak into a cylinder & go past the rings into the oil.

In addition to the usual suspects, Ive seen several that had rotted right thru the top of valve chamber. Rust never sleeps....

When this question was first posted in the "Questions to the Editor" section he stated that they drain the car over winter. I suggested that they keep anti-freeze in it at all times because as stated above "rust never sleeps", anti-freeze provides anti rust protection.

If the car had water in it for the last 50 years then you may well have a ruined block. I would start by removing the head and inspecting the head gasket.

I would start with a compression test. It will give you an idea of the engines condition as to rings & valves. It might even show a low cylinder where a head gasket leak could exist. Of course with a coolant leak that's not external the head will need to come off but you'll know nothing of the motors condition if you just pull it looking for a leak.
