Converted SBC Dist

Hi all,

Installing the converted SBC distributor in my 51 Merc flathead, and I'm wondering if anyone has the same setup and can send me pictures or let me know how they have the distributor mounted. To use the piece on the distributor that tightens it down to the head, I'll have it mounted what looks like backwards.

Using the SBC because I converted to 12V neg ground.

Anyone have a good picture of how they have their SBC dizzy set up on a flathead?

Thanks,
Nick

Cant speak for all but our conversions use a aluminum plate and mount just like the stock one did. Send us a couple pictures......

52Merc - yes, it does have the adjuster window. Come to think of it, the way I have it mounted does make sense in that the window is accessible from the front of the engine.

Jim, I think this may actually be one of your conversions. It's been a couple months since I got it, and I can't remember exactly from where I ordered it.

I've posted pictures of the way I have it mounted. I wasn't sure if this was right because the vacuum advance is on the bottom, pointed away from the carb.

Thanks for any guidance.

Nick

Yep thats one of mine ( purple nail polish on the condensor screw).
It also has the acell adjustable vacuum advance. ( adjust with allen screw inside vacuum tube).
I suggest mounting it the way you have it. I usually replace the clamp bolt with a stud and then shim the stud to fit flush with mounting plate with a washer , have found some variation on head mount thickness etc.
Set timing at 0 ( pin on cover to mark on pulley) and fire er up.....

That did it, she fired up for the very first time today. Having some carb issues, but that's a big hurdle jumped.

Thanks, guys!

Nick
