With recent back issues & inability to clutch for manual transmission I’m converting my ‘35 Tudor to auto trans. It’s been a while since I’ve done this much to it so I’ll say what I think the steps will be & please help / Correct my sequencing!
- remove clam shell covering spline connection to trans.
- remove driveshaft
- install adapter on differential to accept open drive shaft.
- disconnect clutch
- support rear of engine
- disconnect stick from trans
- remove trans
- remove pressure plate & flywheel
- remove starter
-install kit for rear of engine to install auto trans including starter
- install auto trans & shifter
- measure for custom fit driveshaft
- buy made for or have driveshaft made
- install new driveshaft
- shakedown drive
What did I miss
Question: Can clutch pedal be removed from pedal assembly?
Any tips happily accepted :)

I have never done what you are considering, what I don’t see is any modification to locate the rear axle. You might check over on the HAMB for guidance with this type of modification.

What transmission are you planning to use, if it does not match dimensions of the original, you wil have to butcher the x member. Then there is the torque converter............

Don’t forget the oil pan has to come off to remove flywheel unless you have installed a later 8BA engine. I believe there is a lot more to it. As has been mentioned the center crossmember will need drastically modified for clearance and for a new trans mount. I think you may also have to split front radius rods for new trans clearance or at least fab a new mount for locating front radius rods ball. Also the rear axle will need some sort of “Torque arm” to replace old driveshaft torque tube also new front mount for radius rods to locate rear axle. Both of these are a must. You will need hydraulic brake conversion as your rod system will not work. Cut up floor and make new trans cover to suit new auto. With a bench seat shifter mai be a challenge. I’m sure I have missed other mods that will be needed.
You will also need to add a transmission cooler.

Have you considered controls used for handicap operation of the clutch?

"Disabled drivers can operate manual transmission vehicles using several specialized hand control systems that replace or assist with the clutch pedal. Electronic clutch modifications, such as the Duck Clutch or Drivematic system, allow for automatic or fingertip-controlled clutch engagement, enabling drivers with lower limb disabilities to shift gears without using their left leg."
