J and M. That pic. Is indeed a work of art as Hardtimes says. I am not often moved to comment like this but that is lovely workmanship. I've just spent days staring at used babbit in an engine i'm doing up. What a contrast your machine cut grooves are to my shaky hand-done ones (dremel and dentists burr)!

I want to ask a couple innocent technical questions here, so don't nobody git all filed up like I jist stepped on your religion: I see no parting line reservoir, what is the heretical reason for this (or better, track record)? Will the shims fit well enough to retain any hydrodynamic oil pressure?

Wow! That is a beautifully finished piece of work there J and M. Jim H are you refering to that relief cut where the cap and rod separate? What is the purpose of that cut and is it supposed to be on both the cap and the rod, or not? Thanks for all your input guys. This is an awesome forum.

Yes, the relief cut on both halves that serves as a reservoir. To serve as a reservoir, it is not relieved all the way across. There has been much info imparted on that subject on this forum and you can access the subject here by searching "rod". I assume from the professional beauty of J&M's photo that there is a reason for that configuration and I also assume that that the shims, when fitted, will match closely to the journal and help with the sealing-in of h'd oil pressure. I would like to know J&M's reasoning and experience on this unless it is guarded info. I am not an engine machinist, so I won't be stealing anyone's territory. But, I am an avid engine assembler with racing background, so this subject is fascinating to me.
