Condensor

Tell my guys wot are the signs of a condensor going? constantly starting until carb floods out?
And wot determines bad Distributor caps?(36 Engine) burning on the plastic housing on those brass electrods?

My first new condensor on a stock loadamatic failed within about 1000 miles, beginning with an erratic miss which, having begun, deteriorated over 50 miles to the engine barely running and me thankful to get home. I replaced the second (on a new Mallory two point ignition this time) at the erratic miss stage. It lastest maybe two thousand miles. Anyone know a reliable supplier in New Zealand ...?

I just go to Supercheap Autos and buy a condensor for say, a Nissan Skyline, have no problems!

Big Mike, those early caps in my opinion are trouble free. If you are experiencing problems of the bakelite burning away, that tells me you've probably got real high resistance somewhere; in the leads or sparkplug terminals, this leads to an increased HT voltage to be developed, which will take the path of least resistance. Ultimately will lead to carbon tracking across caps and bad mis-firing as the spark follows those tracks and sparkplugs cease firing.

I "thought" I was having condenser problems on my '35 Fordor sedan last year on the Cross Country Tour. After spending a lot of time filing and resettings points, replacing condensers several times and changing coils, I finally determined I had a set of very poor quality (off shore junk) made points with weak springs and fiber that became tight on pivot posts that was causing the problem. There was nothing wrong with the condensers, coils, and other components that I was swapping in/out of this distributor.
