Just thinking, has anybody done or is it possible to put a Columbia O/D
with a Halibrand v/8 QC ? Remember, I'm just thinking.

Thanks, Dudley

Great idea!!!! What gears are you using in the Halibrand?? How is it on the roads?? I have a QC for my '32 roadster and now want to do this also.....

Its not mine I'm afraid. Just a picture I came across on the net some time ago.

I believe it was fitted to a Australian Hot Rod.

In response to the gearing question... As a general rule 3.78 would be about the highest ratio in a Columbia... In reality, a quick change rear end in a Columbia would be over-kill.
I have a pretty hot 59AB engine in my '36 coupe with 3.78 gearing in the rear end. The car cruises very nicely in the 65-70 mph range.. Small hills present no problem where-as larger hills require down shifts.

Rethinking the question I have come to the conclusion that the application would be very difficult,, if not impossible, because the Columbia unit attaches to the side of the stock ring gear. I would bet that the application shown in the picture is actually an empty quick change housings with a stock Ford ring gear inside of the case.

Of course nothing is impossible, somethings just take longer and cost more money.

I am very reluctant to bring this up... but... the fasteners on the rear cover look like they are part of the casting??? I have a "faux" QC that attaches to
an original banjo to give "the look" but that is all. Am I mistaken???

i doubt the quickchange jackshaft would clear the planet gear housing.also whats the advantage. about like having a racoon tail and curb feelers.

OK.....You Gents got me looking at the photo also....look close, between the EX.
pipes, you can see the top of the QC., the polished part....correct?

Is this a doable thing?

Still just thinking, Dudley
