Yep, the only care was to make sure you had a quarter to buy another gallon of gas to get to your girls house.

As a young stud in high school, I remember my buddies and I pooling together our funds to buy a dollar's worth of gas to cruise main street on Saturday night. The car would be empty as we coasted into the driveway. Dad was not pleased.
