cold start

Temperatures in the storage garage 0 - 10F and choke helps some to get started. A little gas poured into carb also helps but not much. I have 10% ethanol blend -- does this make cold weather starting harder? Any suggestions ?

We use 10% eth in northeast; non-eth gas not sold here as I've seen. I would think it would ease starting compared to non-eth gas.

No starting problems to minus 20 degrees here so-far. Good battery, tune-up and right oil grade essential. I turn on my aux elec gas pump at tank for abt 5 seconds to prime carb and pull-out choke 100%.

Old timers, using a lead cord (very carefully) placed a standard 100 watt light bulb adjacent to base of engine and put blankets over hood and grille. Old wool horse blankets worked well. In the '50's I might put a couple tablespoons of straight denatured alkie down the carb (woke me up too).

Have never used them but what about a heating element in one of the lower radiator hoses, switch-in an oil dip stick with a heating element on it, or some other type of block heater. Hear such is standard north of the border.
