Cold air induction on a hood bound flathead

oh man, I was sure hoping that you guys were not running THAT kind of filter with your cold air intake. There are claims and such about the benefits, but having worked at a Ford dealer for 20 years and seeing what happens to 7.3 turbos that have those filters, I would NEVER use that oiled filter, on anything.

Just my opinion, flame suit on and ready!
As a matter of fact I have been using that filter even before installing the cold air system. The only fear I have now is that with the added horsepower I'll have to replace the rear tires more often from 'smoking' the rear tires:D:)

That cold air set-up is a great idea and looks good to me. I would nt put it on my Tudor, but only because I want it to look fairly original.

I run another (non Ford) car which had bad fuelling problems during a race and on hot days. I made a cold air system for it just like yours (but not as pretty!), and it transformed the way the car runs.

Also a major benefit....the gas used to boil in the float chamber, and cause all sorts of problems in traffic. Pulling cool air in from outside the bonnet oops, hood, cured that, so I believe my carb, and the fuel in it is now running cooler.

Cheers, Tom.

So,
Any opinions on cutting louvers in the inner fenders? 46 Ford
Thanks
John

John I like the idea. The easier it is for the the air to escape the more will come through the radiator. My '37 Chevy has louvers in the inner fender panels and have no problem with water getting on the engine.

Vergil, Which way are the louvers cut on your 37? Punched out and facing forward or back, or punched inward and facing forward or back? Our 46 is a driver not a show car and if anyone ever notices them I will tell them it was a factory option:D.
Thanks

My opinion, waste of time, doubt you will see any difference.
Heat rises. if you truly have a heating problem put louvers in the hood where they will do some good.

John they are punched from the inside with the opening facing toward the rear. They are 6" length and 1 3/8" from louver lip to louver lip. The first louver is about even with the trailing edge of the tire.
