Coker Wheels

Ordered 2 16x8 5-5 1/2 for my 41 PU. Had to wait about three weeks because of back-order. When they arrived they were "black powder" not primed as I had ordered. Problem is is cost $40.00 per wheel to get the power off. I called Coker immediately. They could not understand why it happened. I asked them to get back to me because I had time booked with the sandblaster to do the wheels and the bed. He is 35 miles from me. I have not heard a word and it has been a week today. The reason I mention this is the exact same thing happened to a friend, so I am wondering if this is two isolated instances or if anyone else has experienced this problem. :confused:

I think Coker bought Wheel Vintiques so now the good service I used to get from Wheel Vintiques may no longer happen????????

Knock the shine off with red scotchbrite. It takes some scrubbing but the powder is a much more durable base than primer. I've painted over powder many times.

You could be thankfull for free powdercoating, that is expensive.
Simply spray primer over the black for rust free protection.
Primer will rust through to steel if wet or damp.

the power coater was concerned that the wheels had been coated with wax so he wanted them stripped. He called last night and said the wheels had apparently been chromed and then power coated. But the real irritation is I ordered primed and as of this morning Coker has not contacted me. I plan to look at the wheels and take pictures before I call Coker again. The manufactured was not Vintique. I am having them power coated another color and knew I would have to remove the primer, Problem is primmer is cheaper to blast than power coat.

Just what has happened to Coker Tire ?
It seems like, since they now have a monopoly on the old car tire business, they don't try as hard.
MIKE :)

In all the decades that I have dealt with Cooker Tire I have only been satisfied to the point of being netural about there product and service. I have purchased over 20 sets of tires and they have just gone through the motions on each deal. Never had a problem with the product itself, but again just netural.

UPDATE::
The wheels were blasted and power coated. I emailed Coker and was called the next day (AM). Customer Service asked for an invoice for the extra charges I incurred, but couldn't reimburse my gas (about a 40 mile round trip at a whopping 13.4 mpg, gotta love that 94 F150 4x4 of mine!!). I faxed an invoice and received a check today.
Turns out Coker defines primer as powder primer. CS said to scuff it with a scotch brite and paint over it. I explained it would have been nice to know that before I ordered or even when I called when I got the order. I will use Coker again, but plan to ask lots of questions before I order..
