Coil Question

I had this coil on my car and it worked well. I used a new style bracket. Anyone know any history on this style?

Brian - I have one that looks like yours on my car. The screw that pinches the coil in the bracket is Phillips head, so I doubt it (or at least the screw) is original. My car was "restored" in the mid 80's. If I recall the Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards has a discussion on coils and what they looked like, but I've misplaced my RG&JS so I can't look it up, sorry.

One of the Model A magazines had an article about using that can and a new coil. The article said that these coils were not manufactured as original equipment. The technique was to gut the can and put a slightly smaller coil inside. My better half made me store my magazines so it would require getting them back out of storage to find the reference. But it was recent magazine.

I remember that article, I think i was in the Restorer. Somewhere in my multi-foot tower of magazines, I'm sure.

I saw the article. The one in the article has the bracket. This one dose not appear to ever have had a bracket. Replacement maybe?

I think he means a bracket welded to the coil versus those that are clamped on via a separate bracket.
