just got this car driving home from store motor was loseing power no spark put ice on dist. cooled it down car started just got it home should i change to round coil and put it on fender if so do i have to take any thing out of the original coil what do use think about putting in electronic ignition if you can buy one len email lsharky@mts.net

If the new coil is internally resisted, you should bypass the ballast resistor (located under the dash). There is a recent thread on this forum titled, "Electronic Distributors," that discusses their pros and cons.

There's another issue with using an external coil. You'll have to modify the distributor so that just the points are accessible for the new coil. It's not a really big deal, but you'd better brush up on your cuss word vocabulary before you try to put the distributor back in place!

If you have a 6 volt system pos ground. You can use a 1953 ford coil needs no resister. If your car has a resister remove it ,when using 49 thur 55 coil. I would stay with the points dist.
