Coil helper spring in rear suspension

My Pilot V8 saloon, which I've stripped to the chassis, has an extra transverse coil spring in the rear suspension, whereas the Woodie has not. Indeed, I've not found any reference to the helper spring in the Pilot workshop manual. Has anyone come across one of these? Was it an option, or a heavy duty variant, or an aftermarket accessory?

Thanks, John

That type of rear suspension modification was also used by bootleggers to have the car run level when they were carrying a load of moonshine.

I had a 36 ford Pickup with that accessory. I took it off and still have it if anyone would like to add it to their collection. $25.00
