coil heating up

[rod father 1944]

Took the 49 merc on a 2 hour ride, ran fine. About 5 miles from home the car shut off for a second, then kept running. Did this twice, Bubba petronix dist, new 1.5 ohm coil. Coil was hot when I got home. Any ideas??
