hi i have 4 new coil boxes, and i cant seem to get them to work right . 2 dont work at all. i have the tool to test and set them, but i still have a mis . if i ground out no 1 it runs better. also how do i keep thecoil boxes in the box tight ?
Mike, Many of the model T`ers fold a little pasteboard and tuck in behind the coils to tighten them up an make better contact. Be sure that the terminals in the box are shiney and clean. I`ve also had rusty terminals on the timer where the wire hooks on. Monte
New contacts for the coilbox are made out of the wrong material, so it's better to clean up old contacts found at swapmeets. There should be a steel strap connecting the front and the rear of the coilbox - if it's missing, they won't sit right. Your coils run best on both bat and mag if they're set up on an old hand cranked coil tester - the buzz box can't control for double sparks. The new testing unit fron John Regan/Fun projects, the StroboSpark, can also test coils properly.
