Clutch question - '35-'37

Hi, I've just pulled my engine for ****** rebuild. The clutch is worn and I have no idea about the pressure plate but, the first and last time I drove the car the clutch did feel uncertain so, I'm wanting to replace everything. The question is, currently its a 9" clutch disc but I'd like to go with a larger clutch - say 10" or even 11" but, I do not want to have to drill the fly wheel. What size clutch can I install without the need to modify the flywheel. Thanks for your help and patience.

You need the flywheel drilled for the clutch size you want if you dont want to do any drilling. A 9", in a 35-37 should be the flywheel with the big blob weight around the outside. If thats what you have, then a 9" is all that fits. Flat flywheels for 10" or 11" will fit your crank flange. all interchange until the 8ba arrived in 49

Just curious....why do you want to go to a larger clutch? Do you have, or have plans for a "big" flathead in the near future? The 9" clutch w/my stock 85 hp flatty works just fine, and should be for yours too, if yours is stock. - F F

we use to have fort wane clutch beef up the pressure plate. i don.t know if they still do. there,s been a lot of bad review on them. whitch i don,t understand. they were always good with me. give them a call

Okay, cool. I'll stick with the 9". I would have moved to the 10" if there was no mod required just because a bigger clutch is "better" in my mind (you know, bigger is better syndrome)? Anyway, I'll stick with the 9" then - thanks!

Good move...actually, smaller is better, ie lighter, tends to help acceleration. What you could do would be to machine the lip off of the flywheel, really help the performance.

I have no opinion on the flywheel size on a stock motor. Only suggestion is to look at the ring gear, replace if needed.
