Clutch problems

Hi folks

My 51 M-1 was running fine when I put her in a tempo and parked her for the winter ( it gets cold and lots of snow here in Montreal, Qc)

After a frame off that lasted 6 years, there were no issues all of last summer.

She starts well ( I changed the battery to starter connections with 2/0 welding wire and soldered in lugs, which solved starting and charging problems but added about 8 lbs )

Now the problem is that there is no resistance on the clutch pedal, and I cannot shift into reverse to back out of the tempo and drive her a little.

I checked the linkages and everything is moving freely. I tapped the end where it goes into the bell housing with no difference. Someone talked about adjusting the clevis pin one way or the other.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

no resistance seems odd, was it there one time and now the throw out bearing is stuck in? what happens if you try to start it i gear, does it move?

maybe the pin in the clutch release shaft/fork sheared off.they r pretty tough but if it was replaced it could have failed.

1.) Yes when I parked her in the backyard last fall, the clutch was working as it takes me about 15 minutes to snake through the gate, around the cabanons and then park a slight angle to the road.

2.) I don't know if something like the woodruff key sheared off, or if the fingers in the clutch have seized. On this model year there is no access plate to remove to check to see if there is actually something moving.

My neighbour is supposed to come over tonight with his 350 dualie to pull it out to the street. Since the problem appears to be in the transmission/clutch assembly I am going to have to take it to a garage as this is beyond my abilities.

I am still stumped as to why. I thought that Microsoft had the monopoly on random happenings, without explanations . . . . ( ': o ))

Thanks Cas & Jake for replying it much appreciated what you folks do to help us out!!

If you can see the axle going into the bellhousing move and there is no pressure either the rivet holding the fork onto the axle or the fork itself must be broken ??.
Take a peak inside the bellhousing to see what´s going on.
If you take the returnspring away will the pedal just drop ?

Have you tried to put it gear then start it cautiously with foot hovering over the brake.
It may be the clutch just stuck to the pressure plate. If so this little jolt will normally break it free.

Problem solved ( by Bob's garage )
The clutch release bearing was rusted to the flywheel as Cas mentioned and after playing around with it for an hour on their lift Yogi freed it up, thankfully.
Again my thanks to all I should rename myself timid . . .

Curious, but how could the clutch release (throw out ?) bearing rust to the flywheel?

The release bearing rusted to the flywheel???
I suspect as I suggested the clutch plate was stuck to the flywheel , a simple tow start would have freed it.
But you have it solved anyway.

Yup, had this same thing happen to me. We came up with the same solution. The car had been in inside storage for about 3 years.

Love to not put her to bed as there are lot's of really terrific days during the winter and the heater in this thing is great! But, here in Quebec there is a snow tire law that says after the 15 of Dec you have to have 4 snows on it . . . . . kind of sucks, but it is what it is.
