Ok new engine, disk and pressure plate. Chatters like crazy when engine is cold but mostly goes away when it warms up. (0nly in 1st gear). Engine rpms set low. Any ideas?

thanks guys.

when you say "fingers" do you mean the three adjusting points that ride on the throw-out baring

I had a similar problem with my 1946 Ford Station Wagon with a 10 inch clutch. It did not have the adjustable fingers on the clutch. The throwout bearing was not on the collar square. Also the clutch disc was a 10 inch made for a later Pickup and had larger rivet heads which made contact on the inner edge of the flywheel surface. After I put in the proper clutch disc, no more clutch chatter.

I had a similar problem one time....come to find out 30 years ago that i had installed regular bolts on the pressure plate to flywheel not the correct Henry shoulder bolts that have no threads near bolt head...the pressure plate waffled on the flywheel.....creating chatter had to get um both resurfaced and found my old bolts...installed henry 30 year old bolts and it worked great!!

have no ideas, Mark....I'm good at no ideas....anyhoo, Congrats on Vintage Truck article.....very nice pics, etc....great story on your panel....Mike

Thank you mike and everyone else. Yes the article was great. Not sure what to do about the clutch thing. A lot of effort went into getting the engine swapped and later the new rear end in, don't know if I have it in me to take either out again. I will have a look at the fingers just in case, I thought they were right on but?

when we got this cond back in the day when these cars were every day cars . we would put the car in third speed hold foot on brake pedal. pull throutle out to about 1500 rpm & then slip the clutch not all the way up just enought to what we called burning in.the theory was the clutch plate was uneven & this would even it off . we lerned early on when you did a clutch in a ford if you didn,t want troulbe you always put a new unit from ford. not a rebuilt in those days we used to say bring a ford mech was a form of pushement. especly a valve job.
