my 31 pickup has been in body shop close to a year for paint small body work, does have rear float a motor mounts, but pickup was smooth no chatter at all,now has chatter but still quiet and smooth driving

possibly was the body shop moving the truck around by driving it ? maybe an inexperienced person was smoking the clutch. heating it up and glazing it will cause it to chatter.

How much has it been driven since the paint work?? Maybe it just needs to be put to work for a short period and allowed to peel some surface rust off things..If that doesn't correct it, yank the inspection cover and see if there is something wrong..

I think you have a couple of fingers hanging up a little from sitting around, maybe a little rust in places where it should not be.It will either come out of it or it won't.For somebody to abuse it to the point of making it chatter would take a lot of time and work, lots more than driving it in and out.I have one car that chatters in the spring when I take it out, after a few drives I realize it has gone away.

I had the same problem. It started last spring,I checked the clutch, free play was good.. This spring I removed the inspection cover, I reset the clutch again.I still had a chatter. I had had the problem for over a year The clutch had 30,000 miles on it and I do know how to drive my Model A . In June I found the chatter. I was on a tour and I lost all drive. The 4 rivets that hold the clutch together all broke off and the disc came apart. The disc was not worn. The clutch was made in U.S.A. and good quality. The flywheel and pressure plate were exellent. The loose rivets were the problem.

Mine only chatters in reverse. I have not looked into it yet since I just got the car but I suspect motor mounts.

Yeah, when I fixed my chattering clutch recently I found that the rivets in the old friction plate were loose. I'm glad I caught it before it failed completely.

check what the others have said and check the thru bolts on the floata motor to loose and it will make the clutch chatter because of to much engine movement, but on the other hand to tight on those bolts will cause engine viberation just like the solid mounts

I have had chatter to but untill now i though that was just hows these things are. Sence i bought it has alwase chatterd. Well its almost tiem for an engen rebuild it after 82 years and no real matnace she getting tired; I figure ill replace it when i rebuild the moter.
