Guys, any tricks to separating the brake/clutch shaft pedal assembly apart to replace the bushings? I ended up drilling out the pin, but still can't the the shaft apart. Soak, heat? Thanks!

A press is what you need .But you could try welding the clutch arm with a stick or Mig to something real solid like a draw bar on a trailer .Then get the biggest hammer ,Use a drift with a handle on it ,cut the weld later .

I cut my shaft in between the joints and pressed them out them made a new shaft, tried everything else. Time is money, don p

Thanks guys. I ordered a new shaft this morning....................out comes the hacksaw!
I appreciate the answers very much.

What brake and clutch shaft were you asking or referring to,1939? Where can you order a new one Bob Drake ? I have never seen one listed remade but NOS ones. I would make sure you have one in your hand and it looks like it would work before cutting up a 1939 year only clutch and brake shaft especially for a China man made one.

John,I soaked mine, applied heat and was able to tap it out with a common hammer.Make sure the pin is really drilled out,at least at the clutch pedal arm.I ended up removing some of the pin in the shaft later but all ended up fine.I did have problems finding the large bushing for the brake pedal briefly till I posted a looking for here. After replacing bushings I fit them very tight, lots of wear on the shaft and installed rebuilt assembly this past Saturday.Good luck and wait for replacement shaft before cutting.

Don, I hope you can help me because right about now I'm feeling like a total idiot! Before I had a chance to read several of the last posts, I cut the shaft. To make matters even worse, the "shaft" I bought was the clutch relaease shaft NOT the brake/clutch shaft for the '1939! While yes it's the same diamater and is in better shape than my original, I don't see how it could be made to dupliate the original shaft. Can a machine shop re-weld it? Thanks for any and all input.

Years ago we had a boxes of diifferent kingpin sets at work. One of them was exactly the same diameter as my wornout '32 pedal shaft, it even had the hole for the pin, all I had to do was take a chopsaw and shorten the end without the hole in it. We had a lot of 70's era Ford and Chevy Van, pickups at the time and it might have fit one of them.
