clutch and pressure plate

I am redoing a 57 f-100. The clutch and pressure plate and slave cyl. all are new. I tried it today and it just about took both feet to depress the clutch pedal. has anyone run into this problem? I am afraid that this set up came from china, so it will probably need to be replaced. Thanks in advance for any help. Jim

If the pedal moves freely without the cylinder connected, then the whole system works freely with the slave connected but not mounted, then something is wrong inside the bell housing. Its all a process of elimination.

As Ole Don says, check for mechanical issues first. Then think of the hydraulic system. Does it require full pedal travel to disengage the clutch? A smaller master cylinder (or larger slave) will decrease the pressure needed, but will increase the stroke needed. If you have extra pedal travel, you can try a slave with a larger bore/piston. It is a balancing act between master and slave diameters.

If it was sold as a matched set, you would think they were coordinated.

The master cyl. & slave are new and exactly like the old ones. I have three of these trucks and they nare all alike. So I guess that it is inside the bell housing, (dang)

Removed the assembly today and took it back to the parts store and low and behold they had sold me parts for a 2 ton truck. The proper parts will be in monday, just another days work.
