I have gotten my 36 1.5 ton truck road legal and finally driving it a bit and noticed some squeaking that sounded like it was coming from the throw out bearing. The floorboard was keeping the clutch pedal a bit too depressed, and I understand how to adjust the rod from the pedal, but when I pulled the floor board and the inspection plate, I noticed that the shaft running through the transmission has enough side play (1/2" or so) that the fingers that push the throw out bearing can end up missing their "slot" and hit the bearing too soon.
Is the side play normal. Is there a way to keep the shaft from sliding side to side?
