Clutch adjustment

Men,

Rebuilt flathead now ruining fine, rebuilt gearbox in and seems ok after moving forks and gears manually to line up.

Now when clutch pressed cant get a gear as grinds, when try to start in gear with clutch pressed lunges forward.

How much travel should there be?

Lever moves from around 12 o'clock to 11 o'clock, doesn't seem much to me.

One of the three clutch fingers is also out of alignment with the other two are theses adjustable? It's a 10 inch clutch.

Thanks for helping.

Tim, It would help to know year, make and model vehicle you are working on as well as any alterations that have been made to the drive train, if any.

you shouldnt have much over 1 to 1 1/2 inch free play in clutch pedal when you push it down with your fingers, to much free play wont release the clutch completely, the clutch fingers should all be the same highth, most fingers are adjustable if they have bolts in the pressure plate fingers, if the fingers are different hights it lets the throw out bearing twist and lose some release action

Thanks for replying.

Its a 32 coupe, French flathead just rebuilt and so was 3 speed 32 box.

Clutch is 10 inch and was in the old engine / ****** combination and worked fine. Seems like the lever on the outside of the box might not be pushing the clutch far enough as someone over here has had the same issue and cut the lever down by 1/4 inch and that gave enough movement.

Sorry, but no it does not. It lifts one side of the pressure plate earlier than the rest, and leads to a massive judder. The face of the thrust bearing should stay square to it's axis.
They(the fingers) must be even heights.
The finger heights are set with special spacers (instead of the clutch plate) while the pressure plate is bolted (or clamped) down.
The spacers have a specified thickness, and the fingers are set as a given height above the flat clamping surface.
Just a note; Henry Ford suggested much care in the fitting and removal of the pressure plate, as it is easy to distort the cover.
