Clutch adjustment-measurement

When installing a new pressure plate and clutch disc, the instructions recommend checking each of the six fingers on the pressure plate. The dimension recommended is 5/8" from the top of the pressure plate down to the finger. Are they recommending that a straight edge be layed across the pressure plate and the the distance into each finger be measured and adjusted to .625 inches?

Thanks!!

After all the presure plate bolts have been bolted down with the disk inside. Lay a flat edge across the pressure plate and measure down to each finger. They should be set between 3\4" and 5\8", 11\16" the optimum. If you find them out of adjustment cut the swege in the screwdriver slot of each stud and readjust. Peen back over after the adjustment. Best to do this when the engine is out of the car and on an engine stand. I like to rotate it so the pressure plate is horizontal. Makes it easy to work on.

Got to the web site www.ocmafc.org. In the menu at left click on "tech articles". It will bring up a new menu. At the top is my name, click on it. The very top article is about adjusting the pressure plate fingers. I had a friend make a tool for me that made the job very easy.
