Closed car door handles

Does anyone know an easy way to tell the difference between 28/29 and 30/31 door handles? I guess I have never really looked closely at either type and kind of thought all the handles were the same. I see in the parts catalogs they sell both kinds.

The escution, where it attaches to the body, is flat on 28-29s and curved on 30-31s to conform to the belt moulding mounting surface. Also, in most cases the handles are different.

My 29 has nickel plated brass handles, and the 30-1 have stainless.

To add to this discussion...I have a couple of 'spare' handles for my car that I picked up when I was at the meets. One that I picked up has a longer square shaft (~3") than another (~2"). Do these go to particular cars? Oh, Both are scroll type for my Tsedan.

Is that true that 30-31 handles are stainless? Mine apear to be plated. My car is a 30 and the handles are in bad shape. Splitting and various shades of metal are exposed so I assumed this was where it had worn through the plating exposing the layers below. Wire wheeling made it worse. No rust though so maybe ss is correct. Can old SS handles be salvaged.

Timely thread. I have a handle on a '31 standard fordor that is different than the other three. The handle in-question has a different(smaller) neck(ferule?). The first and last pic. Just needing to figure out if I need to look for three that match the one, or one to match the three.
Pardon the dirt and orientation of the handle. Recently adopted, and it's been too cold to wash/work on. Thanks. Bruce

The one in the center looks like cast AL, then chromed.....look at the back side..
..looks like a repop.

here is the easy way to tell the two styles apart
picture #1 on the 28-29 the belt rail is flat,so the escution is flat also
picture #2 on the 30-31 the belt rail is curved so the escution is curved to fit it
the 28-29s will be plated brass
while the 30-31 will generally be stainless
sometimes on the 30-31s just parts of the handle will be stainless (usually the face of the handle) and the back ,barrel,or escution will be plated brass
i have one 31 removable lock scroll handle that has the back of the handle plated brass
,the change for this handle was January 1931

Thanks for the good pictures MOT. That really helps. I didn't realize the large curve on 30/31 handles as I am a 28/29 Aer. I guess I should pay more attention to 30/31, now and then.
