cleaning Z carb

Hello, I am cleaning my Z carb off the 28 A. installing complete carb kit. After I opened up the carb I have found that the whole carb looks to have been dipped in black paint, I mean the whole carb, bowl on the inside, gasket surfaces, etc. My question is, is everything suppose to be coated, never seen anything like this. Is this a special coating? Can not figure how gas didn't take the paint off the complete inside of the bowl. I have cleaned the top section and removed the paint on the inside and have the passage ways clear, one was clogged pretty bad, was able to get it clear. I have stopped the cleaning process till I hear back from the Barn members. Thanx in advance.

I've taken a couple carbs apart that still had a lot of original paint on them, and the inside of the throat and bowl were painted. I used Pactra Aero-Gloss Jet Black and painted mine the same. After several years the paint is mostly gone from inside the bowl, but it's still in the throat.

I have seen a few that someone had painted the inside off. The paint had then plugged up the passageways and it was a lot of extra work to clean out. I am very careful to never get any paint were gas will touch it during normal operation and I use "hot fuelproof" paint, which is very resistive to any gas but can still have issues if in contact with gas continuesly. I recommend you use a glass bead blaster and clean the entire carb and all passageways after you have removed all of the jets, secondary well (assuming it has a secondary well which if it is a dual venturi it will not) etc, then follow the Tom Endys document for carb rebuild.
