Cleaning the cooling system

This tip was sent to me by a member of the Chicagoland MG Club. It looks good to me and I'm going to try it. Has anyone tried this cleaning method?

Be sure to give a report on what you think of this method. 2 1/2 pounds of sodium carbonate per gallon of water totals 7 1/2 pounds of sodium carbonate. Seems a bit excessive to me. Interested in what you think.
